Scholarships

Zonta Club of Lafayette supports several local scholarships for girls and women each year. Several local winners can compete at the District and International level.

Pictured with Amanda Watters, 2023 Lafayette STEM award winner are Marietta LaBauve and Maggie Warren. Amanda is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Medicine at Tulane University Medical School. She has a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, Neuroscience from the University of the South, and a Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences from Vanderbilt University. She has won several scholarships and awards.  Her professional goals are to pursue a neurosurgical residence with a commitment to continue advocating for women in science and service the community through outreach programs.

Young Woman in Public Affairs (YWPA) Award

(local, district, and International)

The Young Women in Public Affairs Award honors young women studying at a secondary school, college or university in a Zonta district/region, or who are studying elsewhere but are citizens of a Zonta country.. , ages 16 to 19, who demonstrate a commitment to leadership in public policy, government and volunteer organizations. The program operates at the Zonta club, district and international levels. Zonta clubs provide awards for club recipients, and district and international awards are funded by the Zonta International Foundation. Zonta District 10 awards its recipient $1000. From ZI, each district recipient who qualifies receives $5000.

Jane M Klausman (JMK) Woman in Business Scholarship

(local, district, and International)

The Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarships are awarded to women undertaking business studies who have demonstrated outstanding potential in the field. Zonta International offers up to 32 scholarships of US$5,000 each at the district/region level. Any woman undertaking a business program at an accredited university/college/institute, including online students, in at least the second year of an undergraduate program through the final year of a Master's program at the time the application is submitted to the local Zonta club, is eligible to apply. The scholarship may be used at any university, college or institute offering accredited courses and degrees.

Lafayette Rose Scholarship

The Rose Scholarship is awarded to a non-traditional student, female head of household, and primary wage earner of the family. Applicants should be individuals pursuing post high school training or certification programs not necessarily requiring a baccalaureate degree. The recipient must use the scholarship to attend an educational institution that is accredited and normally maintains a regular faculty and curriculum and normally has a regularly enrolled body of students in attendance at the place where its education activities are regularly carried on. This scholarship can fund a certification program such as law enforcement or fire training education at a technical/trade school or a community college.

District 10 Rose Scholarship

Lafayette STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) Scholarship

(local)

The goal of the STEM Scholarship is to encourage more young women to pursue a high education degree in science, technology, engineering or math, while also encouraging leadership achievements in science, technology, engineering and/or math and a dedication to the advancement of the status of women. We are targeting currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate female students form a District 10 state, who are majoring in a STEM field.
